We have arrived… Doris’s New Office
June 2, 2017
On Monday 3rd April, Doris moved into a brand new office space in Liverpool City Centre. Our Doris HQ is now located in The Cotton Exchange on Old Hall Street! It’s modern and an innovative hub of creativity and excitement!
As Doris grows, we are bringing the next generation with us. We have now enabled the start of over 100 amazing careers and we won’t stop there. Our new office will be the centre of all this and it was brilliant to invite the whole team to an office warming breakfast in May.
The history of our amazing new building:
The Grade II listed building was built in 1905. It is an icon of Liverpool’s history and was the centre of the worlds Cotton trade. The building was then home to Liverpool's registrar's office and coroner's courts up until January 2012. Up to 100,000 people a year used to visit the offices to register births, deaths and marriages before the facility was moved to the famous St George's Hall.
The Old Hall on the 6th floor, where our annual Doris Conference was held this May, was where the traders used to meet under a stunning glass roof to trade cotton using all the latest prices and information which was delivered by telephone and cable from New York and Bombay! Sadly the beautiful exterior was pulled down in the 1960’s and replaced with the façade you see today.
Our beautiful windows let in light all day and we found out the reason for this is because our rooms used to be used for storing cotton samples and where buyers would come to inspect so were designed this way intentionally to let as much light in as possible.
It is a great place to work and learn and a message for all of our customers out there – please come and see us soon, we’re open for business!
