Doris’ers Doing Charity Work
July 3, 2018
Over the past few months Doris’ers have been coming to us with their amazing Charity ideas and initiatives and we just had to shout about them!
Alongside Laudale, Matt and Ethan ran the Manchester 10k Run with some familiar faces, Andy Wolfe and Alec Laurie! The weather was very hot and Ethan finished the race with another familiar face, Andy Burnham, Manchester’s Metro Mayor!
They raised over £2000 for MIND, the mental health charity supporting anyone in need so no one has to go through it alone.
The 3 peaks Challenge was successfully combated by The Doris Co-op Team!
Grace, Elliot, Dan, Will and Laura along with many colleagues and friends tackled the peaks in the scotching heat and raised nearly £2000 for Macmillian Cancer Research Charity.
Elliot who is on assignment as a Transformation Analyst came up with the idea and organised an entire charity event!
Runnin’, Ridin’ n Rowin’ was a Top Gear style challenge where 3 of the RBT Supply Chain & Logistics team raced against each other along the Rochdale Canal from the birth place of the Coop, Rochdale, to its new home in Angel Square on Wednesday 23rd May to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The contestants were:
Elliot Mathieu Venables: Kayaking 5 miles. 11 years kayaking experience, including in The Lake District, Wales, Scotland and the French Alps
Stephen Lowe: Running 12 miles. Member of Middleton Harriers Running Club, proud winner of the Harriers Endeavour Award for trying really hard in the cross country season
Steve Mawby: Cycling 25 miles. Owns a mountain bike. Is very unfit.
They raised over £1000! Doris were so proud to sponsor this event and a HUGE well done! What a brilliant idea!
Reece Moon, a Data Governance Analyst at The Co-op took part in a 5 a side football tournament with additional games and a raffle which raised £743.30 in total! AND he won the “beat the keeper challenge”! Nice one Reece!
At the Doris Conference we raised over £200 for MIND Charity, voted for by Doris’ers, in our world cup sweepstake and bingo activities!
Also for MIND, Ethan took part in a charity whitecollar boxing match in Liverpool. After weeks of training and not eating his favourite foods (well most of the time) his boxing match at the famous Britannia Adelphi hotel ended in a draw but they raised over £500. Well done to all involved!
What a huge achievement by this group of fantastic emerging talent at Doris, spending time on your career and raising money for these brilliant causes. We are so proud to have you all in our Doris team!
