A big Happy New Year from all at Doris IT!
January 12, 2016
Here’s how one of our trainees got into the festive spirit!
Spot the Doris face! A creative talent in our IT team!
Our lovely apprentice turned IT Trainee at the Co-operative Group led a group of co-operative employees, collectively named ‘The Cooperettes,’ in creating a series of jolly festive videos in the run up to Christmas. We’re very proud that she is enjoying both work and the activities available for Co-operative employees in their spare time. Here is what she had to say about writing, filming and recording the series of songs and videos for The Co-operative social media sites:
Jemma: “We were approached by the advertising team in the Co-op and asked if we’d like to help out with their Christmas social media advert.
Once we had agreed, I helped to write the lyrics to ensure they fit the rhythm of the original song (more or less). We then had a few weeks to rehearse and learn the new song before it was recorded in the big Auditorium room in Angel Square.
It’s not the first time we’ve been recorded, we have a recording of Skyfall up on YouTube. Though this time was a lot more professional and a little bit nerve wracking.
We filmed several runs of the song to give as many different camera angles as possible or the final cut, including individual face shots and a lovely clip of some red doc martins with pompoms.
One of the highlights of the whole event has to be teaching some of the more difficult phrases, when you have a room full of people repeating “Eleven Les Pea-On-ee-ay champagnes” back at you for 5 minutes you can’t help but laugh!
The recording is a rewritten version of the 12 Days of Christmas, following the idea that you only pop into the Co-op for something small and you end up coming out with a bit more, e.g. I only popped in for a lemon and saw some buy one get one free’s.
The videos went on the Co-Operative Food Facebook page everyday following the 12 Days of Christmas.
It’s a little bit cheesy but it was so much fun recording it. There’s going to be an article on the Co-op intranet about the choir too! Really excited about that!
We’re hoping this advert will help bring in some new people for the choir since we’ve just expanded from ladies only to mixed voice. We’re also hoping to plan a few charity events of our own, to go with the Co-op’s support for British Red Cross and tackling loneliness in the community.”
See our favourite video here! and The Co-operative Food facebook page for all 12 days!
Well done to Jemma and all of the Cooperettes and Good Luck with your plans for 2016!
